Autumn Collective Worship – Thankfulness

Collective Worship

This autumn, our collective worship theme is Thankfulness. Through our Christian vision, Bible stories, prayers and reflection, we are exploring what it means to have grateful hearts and to recognise the many blessings in our lives.

We began the term by welcoming everyone back and introducing our JIGSAW approach to collective worship. We explored the Bible’s encouragement to “give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:16) and thought about the many people we can be thankful for, including those who help, support and care for us. We reflected on Philippians 1:3, which reminds us to thank God for the people in our lives.

Prayer has been an important part of our worship this term. We have explored different types of prayer, reflected on The Lord’s Prayer and spent time thinking about the meaning of our school prayer. We have considered why prayer is important and how it gives us an opportunity to talk to God, listen and reflect.

We have also explored how we can praise God through His creation, using Psalm 148 to celebrate the wonderful world around us. We have been reminded to remember to say “thank you” and to give thanks to God in all that we do, reflecting on Ephesians 5:20.

Through the story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16, we discovered that we can give thanks and praise God even when times are difficult. We have thought about how, even during challenging moments, there are still things we can be grateful for. We have also been counting our blessings and considering the people, experiences and opportunities that we sometimes take for granted.

Our Harvest celebration focused on the theme “Living Fruitful Lives”, inspired by the parable of the sower in Mark 4:3–9. We reflected on how we can grow in faith and allow our lives to produce good fruit through kindness, generosity, love and service to others.

Throughout the autumn term, our collective worship has encouraged us to notice the good things around us, give thanks, pray, praise God and show gratitude through our words and actions. We hope that thankfulness will become something we carry with us every day, helping us to appreciate others and recognise the many blessings in our lives.
