Computing
What are we aiming for?
Our Computing curriculum is designed to equip children with the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We aim to develop confident, responsible, and creative users of technology who can navigate the digital landscape safely and effectively.
Our curriculum fosters children who:
- Recognise that technology is constantly evolving and plays a vital role in modern life.
- Understand how to stay safe online and act as responsible digital citizens.
- Can use technology purposefully to create, communicate, and solve problems.
- Are skilled in programming and understand how to manipulate technology to achieve specific outcomes.
- Think computationally—breaking down problems, spotting patterns, and designing logical solutions.
How do we achieve this?
Computing is taught weekly using our dedicated class iPads. We follow the Teach Computing scheme, which has been adapted to meet the needs of our pupils and to place a strong emphasis on Online Safety. The curriculum is structured around three key strands:
- Computer Science – understanding how computers work and learning to code.
- Information Technology – using software and devices to create and present content.
- Digital Literacy – using technology safely, respectfully, and responsibly.
Online safety is taught explicitly through the Project Evolve framework and is reinforced throughout the year, including participation in Safer Internet Day. These lessons help children understand the risks and responsibilities of the digital world.
Where appropriate, computing skills are applied across the curriculum to enhance learning in other subjects. Our inclusive approach ensures that all pupils, including those with SEND, can access and succeed in computing.
What difference is this making to our pupils?
Our Computing curriculum helps children become confident and responsible users of technology who feel safe and capable when working online. They enjoy exploring different types of technology and using it creatively to solve problems and communicate their ideas. By learning about online safety, children understand how to protect themselves and others in the digital world. The skills they develop prepare them for everyday life and future learning, giving them the tools to succeed in a rapidly changing digital society.
