Religous Education (R.E.)

What are we aiming for?

At Forsbrook Church of England Primary School, our Religious Education curriculum is designed to help children become resilient, accepting, mindful, and inquisitive learners. We believe that R.E. plays a vital role in helping pupils understand the beliefs, values, and traditions of others, while also reflecting on their own.

Rooted in our Christian ethos, R.E. encourages children to explore life’s big questions, develop spiritual awareness, and appreciate the diversity of faiths in the world around them.

Our R.E. curriculum aims to develop children who:

  • Understand Christianity and demonstrate Christian values in their daily lives.
  • Recognise the importance of spirituality, reflection, and personal growth.
  • Appreciate and respect world faiths, making meaningful comparisons and connections.
  • Understand the impact of religion on individuals, communities, and cultures.
  • Ask thoughtful questions and engage in respectful dialogue about beliefs and values.

How do we achieve this?

Religious Education is taught weekly and is a core part of our curriculum. Our approach is based on two key principles: learning about religion and learning from religion.

As a Church of England school, we follow the Understanding Christianity scheme, which provides a strong foundation in Christian beliefs and practices. Alongside this, children explore the five major world religions:

  • Islam
  • Hinduism
  • Buddhism
  • Judaism
  • Sikhism

Key features of our approach include:

  • Opportunities to compare and contrast different faiths and belief systems.
  • Encouragement to express personal beliefs and values with confidence and respect.
  • Use of high-quality resources, storytelling, artefacts, and visits to places of worship.
  • Cross-curricular links with subjects such as History, Art, and PSHE to deepen understanding.

Through R.E., we aim to foster a sense of curiosity, empathy, and respect—preparing children to live thoughtfully and harmoniously in a diverse and ever-changing world.

What difference is this making to our pupils?

Our R.E. curriculum helps pupils develop a strong sense of identity, resilience, and respect for others. Children learn to appreciate their own beliefs while gaining a deeper understanding of different faiths and cultures, fostering empathy and open-mindedness. This understanding encourages thoughtful reflection on life’s big questions and supports personal growth and spiritual awareness. Pupils become confident in expressing their values and beliefs with respect and sensitivity. Through engaging activities, visits, and discussions, children develop the skills to navigate a diverse world thoughtfully and harmoniously. These experiences contribute to creating a caring school community where every child feels valued and prepared to contribute positively to society.
