Pupil Premium and Recovery Premium
What is Pupil Premium Funding?
The Coalition Government introduced the Pupil Premium in 2011 to provide additional school funding for those children classed as having deprived backgrounds, and also those who had been looked after (by a local authority) for more than six months. The Service Premium was also introduced for children whose parent(s) are, or have since 2011, served in the armed forces. Since the introduction of the Pupil Premium, changes have been made in the amount of funding schools receive and the children who qualify for the funding.
So which children can receive Pupil Premium Funding and how much funding do schools receive?
We currently receive:
- £1,455 for children registered eligible for free school meals and those who have been in receipt of free school meals at any point in the past 6 years.
- £335 for children whose parents are in the armed forces.
- £2,410 for Looked After Children and previously looked after children and children adopted from care.
*NB. The Pupil Premium is only paid to those children registered to claim free school meals, and does not include those who are eligible but are not registered; the term used by the DfE is “known to be eligible for Free School Meals.
