Equality Duty & Objectives

Compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty”

Forsbrook CE Primary School is a public body and, as such, is subject to the Public Sector Equality Duty under the Equality Act 2010. In carrying out our functions, we have due regard to the need to:

  • eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Act
  • advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
  • foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

This duty applies to all nine protected characteristics defined by the Act: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. Age, marriage/civil partnership, and pregnancy/maternity do not apply to pupils in the same way they apply to employment, but we consider them fully in our role as an employer.

This policy, together with our published equality objectives (Section 4), is how we demonstrate our compliance with this duty. It is reviewed annually by the governing body, and our equality objectives are reviewed at least every four years.
