Forsbrook Curriculum

Curriculum Intent Statement

At Forsbrook CE Primary School, we firmly believe that education is not just about knowledge, but about shaping young minds and nurturing the whole child. Our curriculum is designed to fulfil our Christian Vision statement:

We are a Christian school where quality and opportunities make a difference. All children are unique and valued as children of God, who are welcomed into our safe, loving and supportive Christian family. We strive for excellence and inspire dreams both now and in the future. Every child is nurtured to achieve their God-given potential.

Our school motto guides our curriculum development.

“Learning, Loving, Laughing in the light of Jesus.”

Learning…

Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on academic excellence, and we aim to ensure that all children reach their potential. It has been designed to recognise children’s prior learning and has been carefully and coherently planned and sequenced so that knowledge and skills are built up over time. Key concepts and themes have been woven throughout to ensure that links are made both within subjects, across subjects and across year groups to create a 3-Dimensional curriculum. We have identified the important knowledge, skills and vocabulary in each subject taught from EYFS through to Year 6 to ensure progression.

Loving…

At the core of our curriculum are our school values: love, joy, peace, hope, friendship, compassion, respect and courage. Through these we promote the social and emotional development of all children and foster empathy, kindness and resilience. We aim to provide opportunities for children to develop positive relationships through teamwork and collaboration allowing them to thrive both academically and socially. Children are also encouraged to be responsible citizens who will have a positive impact on society. We believe that children should be taught about sustainability and units of work are planned in each year group which encourage children to be passionate about the natural world, want to do their best to protect it and to influence their wider communities.

Laughing…

We believe that learning should be enjoyable and engaging and our curriculum embraces a sense of joy, fun and adventure. Our curriculum recognises the importance of wellbeing and we want our children to be happy and healthy individuals who will remember their primary years with fondness and joy. Memorable experiences are built into the curriculum to support learning, strengthen relationships and to build cultural capital. We encourage our pupils to take risks, embrace challenges and develop a growth mindset, fostering a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom.

In the Light of Jesus…

Our core Christian values of LOVE, JOY, PEACE, HOPE, FRIENDSHIP, COMPLASSION, RESPECT AND COURAGE are carefully woven through our curriculum. We strive to instill a strong sense of community, celebrating diversity and promoting equality for all. We ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do?” and use this as our moral compass for making curriculum decisions in the best interests of our children.

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
