Worship Committee

The Worship Committee is made up of two children from every Key Stage 2 class who have been democratically elected by their classmates. These pupils act as Worship Leaders within our school, taking an active role in planning, leading and evaluating both class worship and whole-school Collective Worship.

As a Church of England school, our Worship Committee plays an important part in supporting our Christian vision and values. Members meet together every half term to discuss ideas, reflect on recent worship, and identify ways to further develop the Christian life of our school. They help to ensure that Collective Worship is engaging, meaningful and inclusive, encouraging all members of our school community to participate, reflect and feel that they belong.

The committee also takes a leading role in organising whole-school projects linked to the Church calendar, Christian festivals and charitable causes. They promote opportunities for prayer, worship and service, helping to strengthen our school community and our links with the local church.

Importantly, Worship Committee members champion inclusion by recognising and celebrating the diversity of our school community. They encourage everyone to participate in Collective Worship in ways that are meaningful and respectful, ensuring that pupils of all faiths and those with no religious faith feel welcomed, valued and included. They help to create an environment where every child’s voice is heard, where questions are encouraged, and where everyone can reflect on the values of love, hope, respect and compassion together.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and support whole-school and class Collective Worship.
• Welcome the school community using the Anglican greeting and help to introduce worship.
• Read prayers, Bible passages and reflections with confidence and reverence.
• Write and share original prayers linked to school themes, Christian values and current events.
• Attend half-termly Worship Committee meetings to discuss, plan and evaluate Collective Worship.
• Suggest themes, Bible stories, hymns and songs that inspire and engage the school community.
• Help to organise and lead worship during key Christian festivals such as Harvest, Advent, Christmas, Easter and Pentecost.
• Promote opportunities for prayer, reflection and spiritual development throughout the school.
• Encourage all pupils to participate respectfully and confidently in Collective Worship, ensuring everyone feels welcomed, included and able to contribute.
• Celebrate the diversity of our school community by respecting and valuing different faiths, beliefs and lived experiences.
• Support whole-school charitable projects and fundraising initiatives, demonstrating our Christian commitment to serving others.
• Gather feedback from classmates about worship and share ideas to help improve future Collective Worship.
• Act as positive role models by living out the school’s Christian vision and values in their daily actions.
• Help to strengthen Forsbrook C of E Primary School’s identity as a welcoming, inclusive and vibrant Church of England school.
