Disagreeing Well

Christian Distinctiveness

We are pleased to share that we have introduced a Christian “Disagreeing Well” well in the Key Stage One playground.

This special, physical resource has been thoughtfully designed to help children manage disagreements in a calm, reflective, and respectful way, rooted in Christian values such as kindness, forgiveness, and understanding.

The well was originally created as part of a Spiritual Day and has now been kindly donated to us by St Peter’s. We are very grateful for this generous contribution and for the opportunity to use such a meaningful resource within our school community.

The well includes a set of rocks, which form an important part of the process. When a disagreement occurs, children are encouraged to visit the well, take a moment to reflect, and place a rock into it as a symbol of letting go of unkind feelings or choosing to move forward positively. This simple, tangible action supports children in pausing, resetting, and approaching situations more thoughtfully.

Staff on the Key Stage One playground play an important role in guiding children to use the well effectively by:

  • Encouraging them to talk through the problem calmly
  • Supporting them to listen carefully to each other
  • Helping them agree on a fair and positive solution
  • Inviting them to place a rock in the well to show they are ready to move forward

This resource provides children with a practical and meaningful way to “disagree well,” while developing important social and emotional skills that will support them both in school and beyond.
