We have had such a busy start to our Year 6 journey and this half-term has been packed with fascinating lessons across all subjects!
In Maths, we became experts in the order of operations, including working with brackets, and we sharpened our skills when tackling fractions. Problem-solving was a key focus, helping us apply our knowledge to real-life challenges.
English saw us unleash our creativity by writing diary entries and powerful, suspenseful action scenes. We also mastered the art of effective dialogue, all while reinforcing our core grammar knowledge.
We went on a thrilling biological journey in Science, diving into the human body! We explored the circulatory system, discovering the role of the heart and blood vessels, and even made our own blood! We also learned how exercise and a healthy diet keeps us healthy.
In Art, we moved from flat sketches to 3D thinking. We designed our own Bigfoot sketches and used digital tools to create realistic, immersive backgrounds for them.
Computing gave us a peek behind the scenes of the internet. We learned about how information travels across the web, looking at things like internet protocols and data packets – it’s complex, but fascinating!
Geography took us on a trip to modern-day Greece, where we explored its beautiful islands, delicious food, and rich culture. We also discussed the impact of migration on the nation.
For RE, we reflected on the creation story and wrote heartfelt poems expressing gratitude for the beauty of the world around us.
Finally, in PE, we’ve been working hard on our basketball techniques and have made great progress with our swimming abilities!
During the half-term, we also enjoyed a visit to the high school where we spent the morning as Year 7 students – using microscopes in Science and saws in D and T. We then participated in a CPR training course (on ‘crazy hair day’) where we learnt the importance of basic CPR and how it could help save someone’s life.
We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us!
