Becoming a Dementia Friendly School
At Forsbrook CE Primary School, we are committed to supporting our wider community and raising awareness about dementia. As part of this commitment, our school has taken active steps to become a Dementia Friendly School, helping children, families, and staff understand dementia and promote compassion and care.
Raising Awareness Across the Community
Our Worship Committee has played a key role in this initiative. They worked collaboratively to develop an action plan aimed at raising awareness of dementia within the school and the wider community. The committee focused on practical ways to educate and support others, ensuring that our school community is informed, empathetic, and proactive.
Key Initiatives Led by Pupils
The Worship Committee’s work has included:
- Dementia Information Leaflet: Pupils created an easy-to-read leaflet that provides information about dementia, signposts support services, and offers guidance for families and community members.
- Prayer for Dementia: The committee wrote a thoughtful prayer to support reflection, hope, and understanding for those living with dementia and their families.
- Dementia Prayer Area: Pupils designed and created a dedicated prayer area in school, providing a quiet space for reflection and support for anyone affected by dementia.
Impact on the School and Community
Through these initiatives, our pupils have developed empathy, understanding, and leadership skills, while helping to foster a more compassionate and inclusive community. The school is proud to be taking tangible steps to support families affected by dementia, linking our Christian values of care, respect, and compassion to real-life action.
Looking Forward
Forsbrook CE Primary School will continue to build on this work, promoting dementia awareness through assemblies, workshops, and community engagement, ensuring that all pupils understand the importance of kindness, support, and inclusion.
