Spring Half Term 2

Mar 26, 2026 | Year 1

English

Stepping into the world of Beegu by Alexis Deacon sparked the children’s imaginations and brought storytelling to life. Through role play, rich discussions and descriptive writing, they explored Beegu’s journey with empathy and curiosity. The children loved experimenting with new vocabulary, painting pictures with their words and building their ideas with growing confidence and creativity.

Maths

Diving into the world of numbers, the children have been exploring numbers up to 50 with enthusiasm and curiosity. Through practical resources and hands-on activities, they have developed a deeper understanding of tens and ones. Discovering one more and one less became an exciting challenge, helping to strengthen their reasoning and problem-solving skills along the way.

Phonics

Each day, the children have been unlocking new sounds as they continue their journey through Phase 5 phonics. With determination and pride, they have learned new graphemes and alternative pronunciations, applying these skills in both reading and spelling. It has been a joy to see their fluency grow and their confidence shine when approaching unfamiliar words.

Computing

Becoming young data explorers, the children have enjoyed sorting, grouping and organising information in creative ways. Through hands-on activities, they collected and classified objects, discovering how data can help us make sense of the world. Their logical thinking and curiosity have truly blossomed.

History

Travelling back in time, the children discovered how toys have changed over the years. They were fascinated by the differences between old and new, thoughtfully discussing materials, design and what childhood might have been like in the past. Their sense of wonder led to brilliant questions and lively conversations.

Design and Technology

With imagination and teamwork, the children designed and built their own playground models. From carefully planning ideas to selecting materials and constructing their creations, they approached each step with creativity and determination. Watching their ideas come to life was truly magical, as they showed resilience and fantastic problem-solving skills.

Overall

Throughout the term, the classroom has been filled with curiosity, laughter and a love of learning. The children continue to grow in independence and confidence, and we are incredibly proud of all they have achieved.
