Summer Half Term 1

Jun 16, 2026 | Year 2

As Summer Term 1 draws to a close, we reflect on a busy and exciting half-term filled with learning, creativity, and discovery across the curriculum.

In English, we thoroughly enjoyed reading Tidy by Emily Gravett. The story inspired us to write persuasive letters in role, encouraging others to care for and protect the environment. Through thoughtful discussions, we explored the impact our actions can have on the natural world and the importance of taking responsibility for our surroundings.

During our reading lessons, we delved into the classic tale Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. We had great fun exploring the characters and plot, using our comprehension skills to discuss motivations, predict events, and analyse how the story developed.

In Mathematics, we focused on two important areas of learning: fractions and telling the time. We practised recognising and working with fractions and developed our confidence in reading clocks and understanding time.

Our RE lessons centred around the Gospel unit, where we explored the big question: What is the good news that Jesus brings? We reflected on the values of kindness, forgiveness, and peace, and considered how we can share good news and positivity with others in our daily lives.

In Art and Design, we took part in an imaginative stick transformation project, using everyday materials to create our own worry dolls. This provided a wonderful opportunity to express ourselves creatively and experiment with unusual materials.

During Computing, we explored Chrome Music Lab and created our own digital music compositions. We enjoyed experimenting with pitch, tempo, and rhythm while developing our understanding of how technology can be used to create music.

In Geography, we investigated the topic How Continents and Oceans Shape Our World. We explored maps, learnt key facts about the continents and oceans, and discovered how they influence weather, climate, and life around the globe.

Finally, in Science, we studied Animals Including Humans. We learnt about basic needs, life cycles, and how living things grow and change. Our curiosity led to many thoughtful questions as we explored how humans and animals live, survive, and thrive.

We are incredibly proud of all the hard work, enthusiasm, and progress shown this half-term and look forward to even more exciting learning opportunities in Summer Term 2.
