What an exciting start to the term we’ve had in Year 2!
Something truly magical happened when we discovered a mysterious dragon egg right in our classroom. This fired up our imaginations and launched our learning as we enjoyed the story The Dragon Machine, where George looks after a group of cheeky dragons, and The Dragonsitter, a hilarious tale about Eddie and his attempts to care for his uncle’s very naughty dragon. Inspired by these stories, we designed warning posters to alert the school to the dragons in our midst and wrote persuasive letters to Mrs Cooke about the unusual creatures taking over Year 2!
In Maths, we’ve been busy exploring the four operations, with a particular focus on how addition and subtraction are linked. We also investigated the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and developed our money skills by learning to recognise and use different coins and notes.
Our RE lessons took us on a journey to explore sacred places. We learned about the key features of a church and a synagogue and discovered why these special places are so important to believers.
In Computing, we had great fun programming Bee-Bots, creating algorithms, giving clear instructions, and debugging them when things didn’t quite go to plan.
In Science, we became botanists, carefully observing and describing how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants.
Our creative side flourished in Art, where we experimented with mono printing to create unique, one-of-a-kind designs.
Geography lessons took us all the way to Zambia, where we learned about life for children in a small village. We compared their homes, schools, and daily routines with our own, helping us to appreciate different ways of life around the world.
To top off a fantastic term, we took to the stage for our class assembly, proudly showcasing our learning so far to parents and carers. It’s been a term full of discovery, creativity, and hands-on learning—and we can’t wait to see what next term brings!
