In English, we continued our work with the enchanting text Leon and the Place Between. The children immersed themselves in the wonder of the story, writing detailed diary entries from Leon’s perspective following his magical trip to the Place Between. This allowed them to explore descriptive language, convey emotions, and develop a strong sense of voice as they reflected on Leon’s extraordinary adventure.
In Geography, we explored the diverse continent of South America, studying its countries and rich landscapes. A key focus was comparing Brazil and the UK, examining their similarities and differences in culture, climate, and geography. We also learned about the significance of the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and their impact on global weather patterns.
Our Art lessons have been filled with colour and creativity as we explored patterns inspired by the artist Shaheen Ahmed and various textiles from around the world. The children studied the use of shapes, lines, and colours to create intricate and exotic patterns, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures. They then applied their knowledge to design and produce their own unique patterns, celebrating artistic expression and individual creativity.
In RE, our focus has been on how people make the world a better place. We explored different faiths and the ways in which individuals lead by example—showing kindness, generosity, and inspiring positive change. Through meaningful discussions and reflections, the children considered their own journeys and the choices they make in their daily lives. This unit encouraged them to think deeply about their role in the world and how small actions can have a big impact.
In Science, we have been learning all about how we use electricity in our daily lives. The children worked with a range of equipment to create simple circuits, experimenting with the importance of switches and how they control the flow of electricity. We also investigated the role of insulators and conductors, discovering which materials allow electricity to pass through and which ones block it. This hands-on approach has sparked curiosity and encouraged scientific thinking.
This half term, the children have also taken part in a wide range of enrichment activities, broadening their learning beyond the classroom. We celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week by focusing on creating art and believing in ourselves, exploring how creativity can support wellbeing.
During Online Safety Week, the children learned about the safe and responsible use of AI in today’s modern world. For World Religion Day, we focused on Judaism, exploring Jewish traditions and even making our own challah bread—a hands-on experience the children thoroughly enjoyed.
It has been a wonderful and enriching half term, filled with exciting learning experiences across all subjects. The children have embraced new challenges with enthusiasm and creativity, and we are incredibly proud of their progress.
We look forward to the next half term, where even more adventures in learning await!
