Another brilliant and busy half-term for us here in Year 6!
Our Geography unit took us on a journey to discover the mountains of the world and we even took part in some virtual fieldwork to Everest base camp! We also learned about the impacts that tourism has on Nepal, when thousands of people descend there in order to try and conquer Everest.
In English, we wrote a set of recommendations, an application letter and a diary entry – all centred around Sir Ernest Shackleton’s incredible survival story on board his ship ‘Endurance’. We ended the half-term creating our own narrative enveloping ourselves in Shackleton’s Journey.
In Science, we learned about evolution and inheritance. We explored how animals and plants adapt to suit their environment.
Our Artwork was inspired by the artist Mike Barrett and we expressed our identities by producing layered portraits. We really do have some gifted artists in Year 6!
We also took part in Children’s Mental Health Week and Safer Internet Day, completing a range of activities in which the children showed maturity and empathy throughout.
We celebrated National Storytelling Week by participating in an online workshop which taught us how to rap! We’ve even entered a number of children’s work into a rap competition to be published!
