During autumn term two we read the book, “Firework Maker’s Daughter”. We studied the main characters within the text and completed guided reading activities based on the events in the book. We used a range of Literary and grammar skills, with our lessons finally culminating in us creating a diary from the perspective of Lyla! The children thoroughly enjoyed engaging in this half term’s text and wrote some wonderful pieces.
In our Maths lessons, we have been working with fractions. We began by understanding how to create equivalent fractions and how to simplify them. Following this, we began to learn how add and subtract fractions. The range of mathematical vocabulary we have explored has been phenomenal as children have begun using terminology such as mixed numbers, improper fractions, commutative, denominator and numerator when problem solving.
This half term, our humanities focus was History. During this time, we have been learning all about the Tudors. We used our historical timeline to venture back to the time of Henry VIII, discussed key vocabulary and used our skills to determine the whether he was a tyrant or fair ruler, learn all about his six wives and royal progress.
In the run up to Christmas, we had lots of fun creating decorations to sell as part of our Christmas markets and we completed this as part of our D and T project. We learned how to sew and we had so much fun learning a new skill!
The term ended with a huge surprise from Mrs. Cooke… We were fortunate enough to have a gargantuan snow globe in school alongside visiting the Regent Theatre to watch Jack and the Beanstalk. It has been a wonderful half term and we are ready to unwind and relax ready for Spring 1.
