Year 1 – Spring 1 Update

Feb 21, 2025 | Year 1

It has been a fantastic term of learning and discovery!

This term has been filled with adventure, creativity, and exciting discoveries!

In English, we journeyed through the enchanting tale of Grandpa’s Gift, where the children unlocked the magic of writing. They became word wizards, mastering the use of the prefix un- and the suffixes -ed, -er, -ing, and -est to bring their stories to life. For their grand finale, they reimagined Grandpa’s Gift with their own thrilling twists—who knew storytelling could be this magical?

Science took us on a wild exploration of the animal kingdom! After an unforgettable trip to Peak Wildlife Park in the Autumn term, where we observed incredible animals up close, the children became expert zoologists. They classified creatures into different groups, made fascinating observations, and uncovered what makes each species unique.

Our Geography lessons transformed us into local explorers! We investigated our own community, comparing urban and rural areas. Then, we became surveyors, researching different types of houses and discovering which was the most popular—who knew house-hunting could be so fun?

Maths was all about cracking number bonds within 20! Using hands-on activities and pictorial representations, the children became number detectives, mastering addition and subtraction with the part-whole model.

In Art, we dived into the colourful world of Emma Burleigh, a talented artist known for her dreamy water color paintings. Inspired by her techniques, the children created their own breathtaking masterpieces. The best part? Their artwork was proudly displayed in our very own art gallery, where they walked through, admired, and celebrated each other’s creativity!

What an incredible term of learning, imagination, and discovery! We can’t wait to see what adventures the next term brings!
