We’re thrilled to share the exciting activities and learning adventures the children have enjoyed during the Autumn term. Here’s a glimpse into what we’ve been up to:
English
This term, the children immersed themselves in the wonderful world of storytelling with our Pathways to Write unit, featuring the delightful book Katie Goes to London. The children explored the story’s characters, settings, and events, learning to describe them using rich vocabulary. They also developed their writing skills by crafting their own versions of the story, practicing sentence construction, and adding creative details to make their writing come alive.
Science
Our science focus this term was Humans and Animals. The children learned about the different parts of the human body and their functions, as well as comparing humans to various animals. A highlight was our trip to Peak Wildlife Park, where the children observed animals up close and learned about their habitats and diets. This hands-on experience brought their classroom learning to life and inspired thoughtful discussions back at school.
History
In history, we focused on the theme of Making My Own History. The children explored the concept of timelines by creating their own personal timelines, charting important milestones in their lives. This activity helped them understand the sequence of events and how history is a collection of stories from the past, including their own!
Maths
In maths, the children worked on mastering addition and subtraction within 10. Through practical activities, games, and problem-solving exercises, they developed their number sense and confidence in using numbers. They practiced strategies such as counting on, using number bonds, and identifying patterns to solve problems.
Design and Technology (D&T)
In D&T, the children explored the world of mechanics by creating their own moving pictures. Using levers and sliders, they designed and constructed interactive scenes that linked to Christmas. This project allowed them to combine creativity and technical skills, resulting in fantastic and unique moving picture creations.
It has been a fantastic term full of curiosity, creativity, and learning. We are so proud of the children’s achievements and look forward to continuing this journey in the Spring term!
