Year 4 – Spring 2 Update

Apr 11, 2025 | Year 4

Spring 2 has been a truly fantastic and enriching half-term, full of creativity, learning, and celebration. The children have shown incredible enthusiasm and energy across all subjects, making the most of every opportunity to shine.

In English, we continued our captivating Our Tower unit, diving deeper into the story while developing our grammar skills. This half-term, our focus was on exploring and applying a range of verb tenses to improve our writing. Through exciting and imaginative writing tasks, pupils practised shifting between past and present tenses, strengthening their narrative skills and building confidence in their written expression.

In Maths, our focus turned to fractions – and what a journey it’s been! We explored how to add and subtract mixed number fractions using practical resources like fraction strips, which helped us to visualise and understand the process more clearly. We also delved into the world of equivalent fractions, learning how to recognise and generate them with confidence. Problem-solving and reasoning have been at the heart of our Maths lessons, with pupils showing great determination and resilience.

In Science, our topic was Sound – a hands-on and engaging unit that sparked curiosity and wonder. We investigated what sound is, how it travels, and how we hear. Through a series of experiments and investigations, we explored how sound is made through vibrations, how pitch and volume can change, and how sound behaves in different environments. Our budding scientists loved using scientific vocabulary to explain their findings and draw thoughtful conclusions.

In Design and Technology, we linked our learning to previous Science topics by creating light-up Easter cards. Drawing on our knowledge of circuits from our unit on electricity, we designed and made working cards that lit up with a simple circuit. Using modelled examples for inspiration, pupils combined their technical understanding with their creativity to produce unique, beautifully designed cards that lit up in celebration of the season.

This half-term was also rich in enrichment opportunities. One of the highlights was our Mother’s Day Floral Workshop, where we welcomed mums and special women in our lives into school for a heartwarming celebration.

But perhaps the biggest event of all was our Spring musical – Spring Chicken! Pupils worked incredibly hard to rehearse lines, songs, and choreography, pouring their hearts into every performance. The show was a joyful celebration full of humour, music, and energy – truly an EGG-STRAORDINARY experience! From singing solos to dancing in time, every child played a part in making the performance unforgettable. It really was a “yolk a minute,” and we couldn’t be more proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved.

Spring 2 has been packed with learning, laughter, and lasting memories. We can’t wait to see what the next term brings!
