We’ve had a fantastic half term in Year 5, full of learning, creativity and memorable experiences.
The children took part in Bikeability, developing confidence and learning how to stay safe on the roads. We also welcomed families into school for a special Mother’s Day workshop, where the children beautifully decorated vases to celebrate the amazing women in their lives.
In Science, we explored Earth and Space, learning how the Earth moves around the Sun and rotates on its axis—we even recorded shadow lengths to see it in action!
Our English work was inspired by The Darkest Dark, as we wrote biographies about astronaut Chris Hadfield and how he overcame his fear of the dark to follow his dream.
In Maths, we focused on adding and subtracting with decimals, solving real-life problems with growing confidence.
In D&T, we explored cam mechanisms and built creative moving displays based on our favourite books.
During Computing, we learned how to search, sort and filter databases, becoming confident with handling information.
In RE, we reflected on the question “Why did Jesus die?” with thoughtful discussion and understanding.
One of the absolute highlights was taking part in the Dance Extravaganza at Victoria Hall, where the children wowed the audience with their incredible Harry Potter-themed performance—a magical moment to remember!
We finished the half term with a lovely Easter service at church, bringing the school community together to reflect and celebrate. Well done to all the children for their enthusiasm, hard work and creativity!
