During the first half term in Year 1, the children have had many opportunities to explore different aspects of their learning through continuous provision.
Our classroom is equipped with various areas, including a reading corner, construction zone, creative space, and dedicated writing and math stations. Each week’s activities have been carefully linked to our current learning focus.
This term, we explored the fictional text Meesha Makes Friends, which helped the children understand friendship and support their social, emotional, and mental health development. Through this unit, they worked on four mastery skills that enabled them to write a successful diary from Meesha’s perspective.
In maths, the children developed their ability to represent numbers up to 10, compare numbers within 10, and identify one more and one less. In science, we explored the seasons through experiments, which we further embedded in our geography lessons by recording the weather and observing seasonal changes.
