Year 3 – Spring 1 Update

Feb 13, 2025 | Year 3

A journey through time, numbers and discovery!

This half-term, Year 3 has been busy exploring a variety of exciting topics…

In Guided Reading, we dove into The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, honing our skills in retrieving information from non-fiction texts and making inferences. In English, we used the model story Stone Age Boy to create our own sequenced events, incorporating dialogue to bring our characters to life.

In Maths, we focused on multiplication and division, particularly with the 3, 4, and 8 times tables, strengthening our number skills.

Our Science lessons were equally hands-on, where we explored rocks, fossils, and soils, learning to classify different rock types and understand how fossils are formed.

In Geography, we studied our local area, using fieldwork to observe and record physical and human features, and mapping local landmarks with Ordnance Survey tools.

In Design and Technology, we explored shell structures, and we can’t wait to put our new skills to use by making a special surprise for the important women in our lives.

In RE, we explored Islamic beliefs and answered the big question: How do festivals show what matters to Muslims?

We also explored the world of computing with Scratch, creating our own sound sequences.

Lastly, Year 3 had a fantastic time in PE Enrichment, where we took part in an exhilarating zorbing session. It’s been a fun-filled and educational half-term for us all!
